Orquesta Típica Andariega

Playing live at the Saturday night Primavera Ball at the Sheffield Tango Festival, 29 April 2023.

Orquesta Típica Andariega con Marisol Martinez, ‘Siempre Es Carnaval’. Recorded at the Milonga Parakultural, Salón Canning, Buenos Aires.

Fresedo’s ‘Siempre Es Carnaval’ (It’s Always Carnival) was written as a condemnation of consumerism. From the translation by Tanguito, Argentine Tango Academy:

How many live in fancy dress,
without realising they’ll remain like that!
How many listen to themselves without laughing!
This world is the stage
of a big non-stop cinema
that makes us shop.

Another Booking Update

Again, we’re overwhelmed by the response to the third Primavera Sheffield Tango Festival — just a few weeks to go!

We’ve been fully booked for some time. We do have a waiting list and are happy to add anyone to this list. A note for those on this list: we’ll be sure to contact you should places become available.

In response to several emails asking this question: I’m afraid we cannot accept walk-in admissions to any milonga or workshop on the day.

Festival Booking News

Thank you to everyone who booked their place on this year’s Sheffield Tango Festival. We have now reached capacity and are unable to accept further bookings at the moment.

If you have asked to attend and have not yet paid, please do so before 20 February. Places are not secured until payment has been made.

If you wish to attend and have not yet applied, feel free to do so. You will be added to a waiting list and notified should places become available.

Please note that dance passes and any individual milongas or workshops need to be pre-booked. There will be no walk-in admissions to any milongas or workshops on the day.

Thank you for your enthusiasm; we look forward to seeing you in April!

13 January Booking Updates

Bookings continue to come in apace. Full dance passes and passes for individual afternoon and evening milongas are still available at the moment.

If you are intending to book but haven’t yet done so we recommend that you get your application in soon. (Especially those late-booking leaders!)

Workshops are filling rapidly. I’ve listed below those that are full or almost full. If you wish to book for other workshops it does help if you can book with a partner so that we can ensure a lead/follow balance.

If you still wish to apply for workshops listed as full you are welcome to do so. You will be placed on a waiting list and advised if places become available.

Note that for John Tan’s DJ Workshop, the Orquesta Típica Andariega musicality workshop, and Lucas Gastiarena’s History of Tango presentation, partners are not required. (And for those who asked, Lucas’ session will cover different material from his very successful talk last year.)
